What to Consider When Ordering a Uniform for your Gym Staff

Gym staff uniforms are a great way to showcase your brand, unite your work staff and present a professional, approachable image to your customers.

But, choosing new gym workwear isn’t as simple as selecting a colour and adding your gym name, there’s a lot to consider to ensure that you’re getting the best value for your money and boosting your marketing efforts while you’re at it.

That’s why we’ve put together this guide of what to consider when ordering a uniform for your gym staff.

  • Environment – The first thing you need to consider is where the uniform will be worn – on the gym floor, behind the reception desk, indoors, or outdoors? You want your staff to be comfortable and presentable no matter what task they’re doing. It’s also worth thinking about summer and winter options, especially if you offer outdoor classes or training sessions.
  • Male/Female Fit – Some personal trainer uniform stockists only produce male gym wear, which is a big problem if you have female employees. Check that the stockist carries female fit options in the styles that you choose.
  • Logo – Your gym wear should compliment your logo and brand colours, so be sure to select colours that reflect your branding.
  • Garment Types – The type of garment you choose will depend heavily on the task/role of your staff members. For example, polo shirts might be more suited to receptionists and when giving consultations whereas vests may be more appropriate for the gym floor or during studio classes. You should also consider pairing your uniform with leggings and track pants to ensure the entire uniform matches.
  • Print Options/Methods This might just be our most important tip. Don’t overdo your print choices and remember that less is often more! With the job role/position i.e. Personal Trainer, Manager etc. this should be placed on the back of the uniform, at the top. The name of the individual member of staff should be just over the right breast, with the business strapline under the logo on the breast (just remember to check that the text is readable).
  • Fabric Types –Taking into account the job roles of staff members will also help you to determine which fabric types to choose. For example, Fitness Instructors participating in classes will benefit from technical clothing made from polyester and fabrics such as Elastane and Spandex. The moisture-wicking properties of the polyester combined with the added flexibility that Elastane and Spandex offer enables physically active staff members to stay fresh and comfortable for longer than when wearing more traditional fabrics.

Make sure to check the final uniform design and products ordered. Do male and female fit garments coordinate with each other? Are all designs and text clear and legible? Does the look you have created complement your company’s colours and branding?
