Balanced Branding - Where to place a logo on an Exercise Uniform

A uniform is a great addition to your personal trainer business branding. A uniform needs a logo to stand out, however. Choosing the perfect emblem for your business is only the first step in the journey. Once you have a striking logo that you feel represents your offering, you'll need to locate it in an optimum position.

Why is a personal trainer uniform important?

Anybody that works as a personal trainer is more than just an exercise enthusiast. You are also a businessperson representing a brand. Even if you're a sole trader, that still applies. The brand is yourself, and you are every bit as important as any gym or sports club.

Regardless of whether you are creating a uniform for yourself or are taking on additional team members, it is critical that you make the right choices. For those Fitness Businesses that have increased their headcount, by sporting the same attire, new Personal Trainers feel like part of a team and pull in the same direction. What's more, studies have shown that employees clad in official clothing enjoy an enhanced workplace performance. Clients will love it, too. Branded clothing can create a bond between a trainer and trainee.

Designing a uniform should be high on the to-do list of any personal trainer. Naturally, Personal Trainer Clothing would be delighted to help you with this. First though, we'd like to discuss a crucial element of this uniform.

Should a personal trainer uniform have a logo?

Look around the room in which you're reading this blog. We're willing to wager that logos surround you. Maybe this is the famous Apple or Samsung insignias on your smartphone or the Windows iconography on a laptop. Perhaps you have a bottle of Evian on your desk or can see the famous Nike swoosh on your clothing. There may even be a box in the corner bearing Amazon's famous A-Z.

The point is, logos are essential to branding. An old saying claims that a picture is worth a thousand words. A logo is worth at least a few hundred. When somebody sees your logo, they will immediately think of your business. What's more, consumers actively avoid brands with substandard logos. Personal trainer clients will not be exempt from this.

Where should this logo be placed?

Having established that you need a logo, and assuming that it has been designed, you need to decide where to place it on clothing.

Positioning a logo can be a tricky balancing act. Make the logo too prominent, and it will look a little comical. Nobody wants to be trained by a walking, talking billboard. Place it in the wrong location, however, and the logo will escape attention. Such an error makes the process a little pointless.

When considering where to place a logo on a personal trainer uniform, you have three main options. The aim is to position the logo in the best possible location to strengthen and define your brand identity. Let's discuss each of these in turn.

Left of the chest

Next time you are anywhere with uniform-clad employees, look to the left of their chest. You will invariably find a company logo on this spot.

Such a decision is primarily a case of brands following the lead of successful forerunners. Many fashion houses, for example, place a logo in this location. As a result, manufacturers of sporting clothing have followed suit.

The human eye will instinctively look to this spot whenever encountering somebody. Your logo is unlikely to be missed. The only risk is that such a location is so commonplace that any sighting may be purely instinctive, and the client will not take in what they are looking at.

Right of the chest

Taking what we just said about the left of the chest into consideration, why not switch sides? Placing a logo on the right of the chest may garner attention. It's a tiny trick of psychology, but it can be effective. Somebody will not expect to see a design in this location, so they are likely to look harder.

Across the back

Logos are typically quite small, and the back of a uniform offers a comparatively large area. To this end, it is better to use the back of your shirt to display text rather than a prominent logo. A small, subtle design can work. Do not make this the aesthetic focus, though.

If you are operating in a busy working space and need to capture attention quickly and effectively, clear and legible on the back of the uniform will do just that. Even something as basic as the words Personal Trainer will capture the eye and lead to a potential client approaching you. A logo alone will be too small to take in. Used in conjunction with text, however, it can complete a striking image.

Alternative Positions

In addition to the three main print positions on T-shirts and Tops adding logos and designs to other apparel can help to increase exposure of your brand. A logo positioned on the upper leg of a pair of track bottoms or the lower leg on shorts not only looks professional but can boost brand awareness. Another effective option is to include a Customised Cap as part as your Personal Trainer or Gym Staff uniform. Particularly useful for those working outside, a simple eye-catching logo printed onto a Cap will further embed your brand logo into the minds of potential clients.
